Six Days, One Signal, and a Very Special Wedding Band
I got a call from a friend whose grandson-in-law had lost his wedding band at a playground. They asked if I could help find it. I asked if he knew where he lost it — he said yes, so I headed out with some optimism.
When I arrived and spoke with him, he told me he had taken it off and placed it in a shallow pocket of his shorts. He believed he lost it either on the playground, the huge baseball and soccer field... or possibly it had fallen out while riding his golf cart.
That didn’t narrow it down much!
The band was incredibly special — it had belonged to his grandfather, and had been passed down to be his wedding band. I knew how meaningful it was.
I spent the day searching with no luck, then came back the next day and spent another 4 hours — again, no luck. With visions of the ring bouncing off the golf cart and into a ditch, I kept at it, spending three more evenings hunting until dark.
On the sixth day, with my optimism fading, I hit the playground once more. After about an hour, I got a solid 15 on my Vanquish. I moved my pinpointer around in the wood chips, got a good signal — and there it was!
They were absolutely thrilled when I returned it.
And that is what makes this hobby so special.
