Goldfields of Fortune: A Desert Hunt Worth $25,000 in Gold

Sandy Valley, Nevada set the stage for one of the most exciting gold hunting events of the year. Goldfields of Fortune brought detectorists from across the country together for a chance to uncover real gold using the new GOLD MONSTER 2000. Since its launch last year, it has already proven its performance in the goldfields, with high sensitivity to small gold, simple automatic operation, and a design that is easy to handle across long days of detecting.

The mission was simple, find the gold.

Hidden throughout the desert were small vials, each holding pieces of gold and other organic metals. Every signal had the potential to be something big, and every dig kept the excitement building. The terrain pushed participants to stay sharp, trust their detector, and keep going.

The moment everyone was chasing finally came.  In the first three hours, the $25,000 in gold had not been found. A final one-hour round followed, with the search area tightened to bring detectorists closer to the find. In the end, Francisco Chavez uncovered the gold and claimed the $25,000. What made it even better, this was his first detector. No long track record. No years of experience. Just the right mindset and the GOLD MONSTER 2000 in hand.

All across the field, more vials were discovered. Many detectorists walked away with gold vials they found themselves, adding to the energy of the event. For those who did not land a gold vial, there was still another chance to win, with post-hunt stage games giving participants the opportunity to take home Minelab gifts and exclusive discounts to use on the Minelab site.

Every attendee left with something to remember the experience.  Minelab also prepared a special gift for participants, the Goldfields of Fortune belt buckle, along with custom patches, keeping the excitement going right through to the end.

The story did not end in Sandy Valley. After the event, Inaki, VP of Minelab Americas, flew to New Mexico to personally deliver the gold to Francisco Chavez. That final moment brought everything full circle and reinforced what the event was all about, real gold, real people, and real rewards.

Goldfields of Fortune was more than a competition. It brought together a community driven by curiosity, determination, and the thrill of discovery. With the GOLD MONSTER 2000 leading the charge, detectorists experienced just how powerful and accessible gold prospecting can be.

A big thank you to everyone who came out, took part, and made the event what it was. We hope to see some new faces at the next one.
