Uncovering More Than Treasure with the Vanquish 540

Well, my great find was a little different than most. I’ve been detecting for years, but always used Garrett equipment — until now.

We were trying to locate two old septic tanks, an underground gas tank, and a buried 2/0 electrical line on a property. The owner was planning to hire someone with GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) to find them — at a pretty high price.

On Tuesday, after receiving my Christmas bonus, I spent the evening researching detectors. While I couldn’t afford a high-end Minelab, I decided to purchase the Vanquish 540 Pro Pack — especially because I wanted the larger coil.

On Wednesday, I took it to the first location: the septic tank. I disabled the iron bias and found it in about 3 minutes — it was 24” deep!

Same thing with the gas tank. I thought the detector was going to explode — that’s a lot of steel! Then I found the buried electrical cable at a depth of around 16 inches.

With the utility work done, now it’s time to treasure hunt! This Vanquish 540 is a beast! Thank you for such great products.

By the way, I even found some coins and a screwdriver on the way home, just outside our high school football field — all in about a 10 ft area. I’m going back tomorrow!
